“Julian, what is my talent? I feel so hopeless sometimes cause I feel that I don’t have a talent…”
That was what I received one day from a friend of mine, wondering what her talent was. In her mind, she felt she had no talent and she felt lost in a way because she doesn’t know what her talents were. She confessed to me she felt like she had lost direction in life because she did not know her talents.
Well, when I received the message, my mind wandered into her shoes and I immediately came out with a list of things she was talented in. I sent her the list but she rejected them one by one as she did not see them as talents of her own.
I told her, although in this world there are people who are talented in singing or drawing or creating sculptures or sketching or cooking or even sewing, these talents are just talents that can be seen with our eyes. These are not the only talents out there.
We humans are born with different kind of talents that God gives us to make us special and unique in our own way. However, it does not necessary have to be the norm that He usually gives the rest. He has blessed each of us with a different talent that might not appear to be seen but you will know it is there.
“What about people skills?”
My reply had meant to describe her ability to make friends easily. She took it with a pinch of salt as she questioned me further about my answer. It isn’t hard to see, when you know someone as well as her, you will know she is able to find friends just about anywhere she goes with her sunny disposition and optimistic outlook.
She complimented me with her explaining my talent being creating something fascinating out of ordinary malleable wires. In truth, I found nothing fascinating about that ability to the extend I would call it a talent. It has no marketing value, making it an obsolete activity, as my parents once said to me about them.
Matter of fact, I actually thought my talent would be cooking. I enjoy cooking and I love how my parents accept my cooking back at home too. However, my cooking did not make any impact in my friends or anybody else. So, I knew then that cooking was not my talent. I’m just any other ordinary guy out there who knows how to cook good enough to feed a stomach. I watch cooking shows at home and wonder why can’t I make meals like they do? You know, I do hope to make an impact with my cooking but guess what, it’s just normal. Normal cooking will not take you anywhere in this world.
Anyways, I do hope my readers who are lost about their talents do take the time to figure it out for themselves. Do not try to be humble to yourselves about it because it is all about you. We cannot be humble to ourselves because it is of no use. Once we decide what our talents are, then maybe we have a better sense of direction in life just like my friend.

I believe that when people working hard in something, eventually they will have the talent on that something. Practices make perfect :)

Haha, Matt...practice does makes perfect. But when you aren't born with the talent, it takes a bit longer to make it perfect. That is for sure, I bet you!
